What changes the price
- Per page or per document. Some services charge per document, others per page. With us, a licence front and back counts as 1 page.
- The language. Common languages are often cheaper than rare ones.
- The delivery time. Express or same-day delivery usually adds a surcharge.
- A printed copy. Posting a hard copy adds postage. A PDF with the translator's digital stamp is enough for most uses, but Queensland asks for original documents for a licence transfer, so check before you order.
- Extra pages. Stamps, back pages and annotations count if they carry text.
How to avoid paying more than you need
- Check if you are eligible for the Free Translating Service and whether you can wait up to 30 days.
- Do not pay for a translation that will be refused. For a NSW licence transfer, only Multicultural NSW and the Free Translating Service are accepted (plus the Korean consulate and TECO for those licences). See what NSW accepts.
- Order all your documents at once if you need several, and compare the total, not the starting price.
- Pay for express only when you need it. If your appointment is next week, the 24-hour service is enough.
FAQ
How much is a NAATI translation of a driver licence?
Published starting prices read on 4 November 2026 range from $31.75 per page to $79 per licence or page, depending on the service. Ours is $69 in 24 hours or $139 in 1 hour; a licence, front and back together, counts as 1 page.
Why do prices vary so much?
Services charge per page or per document, and the price depends on the language, the length, the delivery time and whether you want a printed copy posted to you.
Is there a free NAATI translation?
The Home Affairs Free Translating Service is free for eligible holders of listed visas granted in the past 2 years, who are in Australia. It does not translate visa or citizenship documents and can take up to 30 days.
Does a more expensive translation get accepted more easily?
No. Authorities check the translator's NAATI credential and the details on the translation, not the price you paid.
