Nepali date converter: Bikram Sambat (BS) to AD
Convert the dates on your Nepali documents, such as a citizenship certificate, birth registration or relationship certificate, into Gregorian dates (AD), or the other way round. The conversion uses the length of every Bikram Sambat month, day by day.
Why a BS date cannot be converted by subtraction
Bikram Sambat runs about 56 years and 8 months ahead of the Gregorian calendar. But its months are 29 to 32 days long, and their length changes from one year to the next. Subtracting 56 or 57 years gives the right year at best, never a reliable day. This converter counts the days month by month from 1 Baisakh 2000 BS (14 April 1943 AD).
Where you will see BS dates
- Nepali citizenship certificates (date of birth and date of issue)
- Birth registration and relationship certificates issued by ward offices and municipalities
- Marriage registration certificates and academic documents from Nepal
Common mistakes on applications
- A date converted by hand that is one day off: it then differs from your passport, and the officer asks for an explanation.
- The month numbers mixed up with Gregorian months: Baisakh is the first month of BS but falls in April and May.
- Different dates on different documents because each was converted with a different tool.

FAQ
How do you convert BS to AD?
With a day-by-day table of the length of every Bikram Sambat month. BS is about 56 years and 8 months ahead of AD, but the months of BS change length from year to year, so a date cannot be converted with a simple subtraction.
Which years does this converter cover?
From 2000 BS (14 April 1943 AD) to the end of 2090 BS (13 April 2034 AD). Outside that range it shows a message instead of guessing.
When does the Nepali year start?
On 1 Baisakh, in mid-April. For example, 1 Baisakh 2082 BS was 14 April 2025 AD.
Can I write the converted date on my visa application myself?
You can use it to check your dates. When a document in Nepali is translated for an application, the certified translation gives the converted date and the translator takes responsibility for it.
