Korean documents we translate
| Document | In Korean | Often used for |
|---|---|---|
| Family relation certificate | 가족관계증명서 | Visa (family details, parents) |
| Basic certificate | 기본증명서 | Visa, citizenship (birth details) |
| Marriage relation certificate | 혼인관계증명서 | Partner visa |
| Criminal record certificate | 범죄경력회보서 | Visa character requirements |
| Driver licence | 운전면허증 | Driving, car hire, licence transfer |
Korea does not issue a single "birth certificate" like many countries: the basic certificate and the family relation certificate usually play that role. Ask the authority which one it wants, or translate both.
Driving in Australia with a Korean licence
- Western Australia recognises South Korea for licence transfers from 31 October 2026 (source: transport.wa.gov.au).
- NSW accepts, for licence transfers, translations from the Consulate-General of the Republic of Korea, the Free Translating Service or Multicultural NSW, but not private NAATI translations such as ours.
- Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and the ACT accept translations by NAATI translators.
- To drive or hire a car, carry an English translation or an International Driving Permit with your licence.
If every field of your licence is already printed in English, you may not need a translation: check with the authority or the rental company.
What our translator checks
- Names in the order of your passport: Korean puts the family name first. We use the romanisation of your passport.
- Resident registration numbers: shown as on the original, or partly masked if the authority allows it. Tell us when you order.
- Licence types (such as 1종 보통 or 2종 보통) translated with their vehicle classes.
Price and turnaround
- Standard: $69 per page, PDF within 24 hours.
- Express: $139 per page, PDF within 1 hour for orders paid 8am–8pm, Monday to Saturday (Sydney time) with a clear and complete photo or scan. If we miss the 1-hour delivery time, the express surcharge ($70 per page) is refunded automatically.
