Nepal police clearance and driving licence verification from Australia

Last checked 4 November 2026 against the official sources listed below · Updated 4 November 2026

Nepal Police issues police clearance reports through its Online Police Clearance Registration System (opcr.nepalpolice.gov.np): you register, log in and apply online. The portal's help explains the steps, and its office answers questions by phone or email. For a Nepali driving licence, the Embassy of Nepal in Canberra attests and verifies licences for AUD 75, in person or by post, usually within 7 to 10 working days after it receives the documents, or on the same day if you come in person before 12 pm.

Nepal police clearance report

Nepal Police runs an Online Police Clearance Registration System at opcr.nepalpolice.gov.np:

  1. Register an account with your email.
  2. Log in and fill in the application.
  3. Follow the portal's "How to apply?" guide for the documents and steps that apply to you, including if you live abroad.

Contact: +977 01-5719865, 9851285920, opcr@nepalpolice.gov.np, from 10 am to 5 pm (Nepal time).

If your police report is entirely in English, it does not need translating. Nepali documents that are not in English, such as a citizenship certificate or a birth registration certificate, need an English translation for an Australian visa, with Bikram Sambat dates converted day by day into Gregorian dates.

Nepali driving licence verification by the Embassy in Canberra

The Embassy of Nepal in Canberra attests and verifies Nepali driving licences. Bring these documents in person, or send them by post:

  • The application form, typed and printed in colour (no handwritten forms)
  • A copy of your Nepali driving licence, or a printout of the online record from the Department of Transport Management
  • Copies of your citizenship certificate and passport
  • The fee: AUD 75 (by post: money order or bank cheque in the name of "Embassy of Nepal, Canberra")
  • By post: a self-addressed express (trackable) return envelope

Older licences that do not appear in Nepal's online licence system need a verification letter from the Department of Transport or the transport office, attested by the Department of Consular Services in Kathmandu.

While the Department of Transport Management's online system is under maintenance (embassy notice read on 4 November 2026), provide one of the following:

  • the licence displayed in the Nagarik App;
  • the licence record shown on the website of the provincial transport office;
  • the payment receipt for the licence; or
  • the licence holder's name on an officially published list.

If the details on your licence and your passport differ, send a letter explaining the differences instead of the application form.

Processing time: around 7 to 10 working days after the embassy receives your documents by post. If urgent, bring them in person before 12 pm on an office day: they are attested the same day.

Verification and translation are two different things. If your licence is not in English, the licensing authority of your state asks for an English translation; check whether it also asks for verification.
